Pieter August Hoets
Pieter August Hoets, a resident of New Canaan, CT for 20 years, passed away on October 21, 2017 He was 71 years old and active until his passing He lived a full and vigorous life in the US, Europe, and Asia
He was born in The Netherlands, an investment banker, and wonderful husband and father Known for his expansive and encompassing generosity, charity, and love for family and friends, Pieter will be sorely missed by all who knew him
Starting life's journey, Pieter was born on October 16, 1946 in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands He was the first child of the late Dr Hendrik W Hoets and the late Hedwig Nora Hoogenboom of Apeldoorn Pieter grew up in Apeldoorn and graduated high school from the Apeldoornse Gymnasium After graduating high school, he studied law at Groningen University and achieved his law degree He completed his military service in the The Netherlands Army
In 1973, Pieter started his investment banking career when he joined ABN bank in Amsterdam In 1976 he joined Morgan Labouchere in Amsterdam and in 1982 transferred to Morgan Guarantee Trust in New York where he worked for ten years until he transferred to Geneva, Switzerland as Managing Director In 1997 Pieter returned to New York as Head of International Private Banking at JPMorgan and settled in New Canaan He retired from JPMorgan Chase in 2004 and subsequently held consulting positions in the finance industry
The highlights of his life were his marriage to Kathy in 1996 and the birth of his son, Erik in 2001 In 2004 he moved his family to Bali for two years to reconnect with his Indonesian roots Pieter's father, mother, and grandparents were born in Indonesia Pieter's greatest joys were his marriage to Kathy and his son Erik He was Erik's biggest fan, coached his soccer team, supported his tennis playing, never missing a match In Erik he imbued a sense of righteousness, loyalty, fairness as well as history, finance, geography, and math Pieter was so proud and supportive of Kathy who is an accomplished artist and superb cook He had an incredible artistic eye and provided encouragement to her creative process
Pieter touched on the lives of everyone he met He loved and lived life to the fullest Pieter was a chronicler of events and kept mementos of his trips and adventures which became pieces of living history He was generous and always was the first to lend a helping hand with an enormous and kind heart He had a great sense of humor and sharp wit and was always a gentleman
Pieter is survived by his wife Kathy (nee Williams), son Erik Willem, sister Hetteke Hoets, half-brother Hendrik Willem Hoets, aunt Grace Hoets, nephew Paul van Donkelaar, niece Anniek van Donkelaar, cousin Anthony Hoets, and cousin Henk Hoets and Henk's children Jenn Hoets and Pieter B Hoets, plus many friends who were more like family than friends and who live in the United States, Europe, and Asia
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Services open to those who would like to pay their respects will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Roger Sherman Inn, 95 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, CT 06840
