SCHERTZ, Texas - Lisa M. Sipes, 42, of Schertz, Texas, formerly of Kankakee and Champaign, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023, at her home in Schertz.
She was born February 6, 1981, in Cincinnati, lived in Berea, Ky., for five years, then moved to Kankakee.
Lisa attended public school in Kankakee and then went to the University of Illinois, where she joined the ROTC program. She graduated with a degree in nursing and was commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation.
She was stationed in San Antonio, where she married Brandon Christy and had two children, Corbin M. Christy, 15, and Harlynn R. Christy, 11.
Surviving are her husband and children; her mother, Barbara Sipes, a former elementary school teacher in Kankakee; her sister, Amy L. Sipes, director of assisted living at ClarkLindsey in Urbana; and two brothers, Gerald Sipes of Colorado Spriings, Colo., and Daniel Sipes of Berea, Ky.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Sipes Sr., and one brother, Joseph Sipes.
The family is holding a celebration of life for Lisa from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at the Beckman Building at Beckman Park in Kankakee. All are welcome.
