Billie Scott Obituary

Billie Marie Scott

Billie Marie Scott, 78, was born September 19, 1935 to Edward Rose and Freda Herd Taber of Ocie, Missouri. She passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, going home to the Lord and joining her husband in Heaven.

Billie became a Christian at a young age and loved and served the Lord throughout her life. She spent the majority of her life worshiping at Glenstone Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri where she was an active member of its ministries for many years devoting time and love for the children and youth.

Billie retired from the Springfield Public School Media Library Center in 1997 having made lifelong friends of those with whom she worked. Throughout the years, Billie enjoyed sewing, crafting, ceramics, camping, traveling, photography, and spending time with her family and friends. Billie was a loving and caring person who put the needs of others before her own. She was charitable and giving, and her love and positive attitude over the years was an inspiration to many.

Along with her father and mother, Billie was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Dr. Lonnie Mitchel Scott and her brother Bobbie Lee Taber. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Lorraine and husband Jeff Morrissey of Springfield, Missouri; her son Stephen Mitchell and wife June Scott of Denver, Colorado; her four grandchildren Andrew Scott Garton of Springfield, Missouri, and Eden, Lorraine (Lily), and Taber Scott of Denver, Colorado; two step-grandchildren Taylor Morrissey and family of Kansas City, Missouri and Amanda Boswell and family of Harrison, Arkansas; and many loving relatives and friends. Billie loved her family and was especially proud of her children and grandchildren.

Billie loved life and celebrated it daily, enriching the lives of all those she came in contact with, including her caregivers, friends, and church family to whom we offer special thanks for all their love and support.

A visitation service will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Glenstone Baptist Church on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10:00 am, followed by graveside services at Rhodes Cemetery in Theodosia, Missouri at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lonnie and Billie Scott Science and Mathematics Scholarship at the Missouri State University Foundation, 300 S. Jefferson Ave., Springfield, MO 65806.

My thoughts and prayers are with and for you.
I loved your folks as they so freely served and encouraged us as youth at Glenstone. Your Mom taught our HS girls Sunday School. I still have a Christmas ornament she made for each of us. I also remember good time with your boat on the lake!

It makes me smile to think of them reuniting in heaven.

Wish I could have been at the service. My folks said it was a fitting celebration.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Billie. She was such a sweet person. Lonnie was my 6th-8th grade teacher @ Mark Twain School. I have good memories of both of them.

Billie was like a 2nd mom to me in those early years. She always had a smile and a kind word for me - a wonderful, down to earth charming lady. She has made heaven even better now for Lonnie and what a reunion they are having together. Praying for you, Pam, and you, Steve, as you "say goodbye for a while" to your mom. Wish I could be there but you are in my thoughts and prayers today.

Lifting your family in prayer during this difficult time. Billie was a gracious lady, always had a smile on her face and a kind word for all. Rejoicing that she is reunited with Lonnie and in the presence of the Lord. Mom, Dad and I send your family our love.

I I worked in the Library Office with Billie for many years. I loved this woman. She was a very dear friend. Truly an example of God's love. She always had a word of encouragement if things were bad in my life.
