David P. Stump, born April 27, 1943, in South Bend, Ind., died Sunday, May 30. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patricia Stump, Branson; his parents Paul and June Stump, North Liberty, Ind.; a son David Jr. (Michelle) and children, Krystal and Brittney, Kimberling City; son Brett (Mel), and their son Brett Jr., Indian Point, daughter Sandi, Denver, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Jack Hepler, Claremore, Okla.; nephews Scott Hepler (Martha), of Ottawa, Kan.; and Matthew Hepler and sons, Tate and Zane, of Claremore, Okla.; sister-in-law Lynnette (Allan) Poe of Syracuse, Ind; and son USMC Sgt. Jeffrey Poe, Okinawa, Japan; brother-in-law Raymond Glon and children Coley and Katie of South Bend, Ind. Dave has been director of Human Resources for Associated Electric Cooperative in Springfield since 1983 when he moved to Nixa. He received the cooperative's prestigious 2004 Distinguished Service Award, which annually recognizes an employee who has made sustained, outstanding contributions to the cooperative. In his 27 years with Associated, Dave was a mentor to employees across every level of the organization and shared employees' excitement and enthusiasm as they laid out their goals and then helped them implement their plans. He was respected by his colleagues and subordinates alike, who describe him as honest, intelligent and humble. Dave truly lived by the rule: "Treat people fairly and consistently." Dave served Associated and the industry by working on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's Benefits Advisory Group. Prior to coming to Springfield, Dave worked 18 years in Fort Wayne and South Bend, Ind., for the Indiana and Michigan Electric Co., one of eight operating companies of American Electric Power today known as AEP. He was a member of Pine Creek Church of the Brethren in North Liberty, Ind. Dave graduated from North Liberty High School in 1961. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Manchester College, North Manchester, Ind. An ardent fan of Cardinal baseball and Notre Dame football, Dave attended games every year. Services will be Wednesday, June 2 at 1 p.m., in Greenlawn East Funeral Home, 3540 E. Seminole, Springfield. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Gardens in Branson, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the
American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
