John Dickinson Obituary
John Donald (J.D.) Dickinson was born January 19, 1921 in Kansas City, Kan., and passed away December 17, 2009 in Springfield, Mo. He was 88 years old. J.D. was married to Sally Faubion on August 7, 1948. Together they were married forty-two years until her death in 1990. On November 12, 1992 he married Bette E. Reynolds and they were married seventeen years. During World War II J.D. served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Fleet in Okinawa and Shanghai. After the war he received a business degree from Kansas University. He then worked as Vice-President for R.L. Faubion Tank and Equipment Company in Kansas City, Mo. In 1968, J.D. and the family moved to Springfield, Mo., starting J.D. Dickinson Compressor Company. He was currently retired. J.D. was a member of Springfield Rotary, Advisory Board of St. John's Hospital, Hickory Hills Country Club, Knights of Columbus, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Springfield Senior Golf Association and Men-A-Pause Golf Group. His love of golf was a joy for him throughout his life and he especially enjoyed being with his golf buddies. J.D. is survived by his wife, Bette; three sons and their wives, John D. Dickinson, Jr. and Pam, William F. Dickinson and Ada, and Paul Jeffrey Dickinson and Patty. Two sons, Robert and Joseph Dickinson preceded him death. J.D. is also survived by three step children, James D. Reynolds, M.D., and Marilyn of Boulder, Colorado, Rebecca K. Thompson and Mike of Des Moines, Iowa, and Robert K. Reynolds, D.D.S. and wife Heather of Springfield, Mo. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Alicia Dickinson and Julie Hoffman, Bethany Hubbell and Brandon, Robert Dickinson and Ashley, Tiffany Dickinson and Angel Dickinson. Step-grandchildren include Scott and Magan Thompson, Zach and Jackie Thomson, and Chase and Hannah Reynolds. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. J.D. will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2818 E. Bennett St., Springfield, on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Kitchen, 1630 North Jefferson Avenue Springfield, MO 65803, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
