CHARLES VAN MIDDLESWORTH III

AUGUST 9, 2014

Charles Van Middlesworth, III, 68 of Fort Myers, FL (formerly of Ocean Township) died August 9, 2014 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Charles was born August 6, 1946 and grew up in Ocean Township, NJ before moving to Baltimore, MD and then to Fort Myers. He was a high school teacher for 30 years in the Baltimore County public school system. Charles was an avid tennis player and was a teaching pro at The Suburban Club in Baltimore for 30 years, becoming the director of tennis at the club in 2000. After retiring from teaching, he moved to Fort Myers and became a tennis professional at Gateway Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers where he instructed adult team clinics and junior development. He vacationed in Jamaica for the last 30 years, his home away from home.

He was a graduate of Asbury Park High School, East Carolina University and earned his Masters in Business Administration from Morgan State University in 1976. While at East Carolina University, he was a member of the tennis team and was a semifinalist in singles and doubles in the Southern Conference tournament from 1966 to 1968. He was a member of USPTA and was on the Wilson advisory staff.

Charles was predeceased by his parents, William and Muriel, his brother, William, Jr. and his wife, Wendy. He is survived by his step-daughter, Jennifer Spencer, Fort Myers; sister, Charlene Smith and her husband, Gary of Avon-by-the-Sea and two nephews, Gregory and Daniel.

A Memorial Service is being planned in Florida at a later date. Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Avenue, Asbury Park is in charge of the arrangements. For information on future plans and to leave condolences for the family, visit our website: www.Buckleyfuneralhome.net.
