Mrs. Carol Newman Fletcher of Lenoir City, TN passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the age of 87 after enjoying a wonderfully full life, filled with love, family and accomplishment.
The services to honor her life was held at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City, TN with family receiving friends on Friday, January 17 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Following that, the family had a private graveside service.
Carol was born at home on December 9, 1937, to her parents Floyd Echols and Lela Colvin Newman in Tellico Plains, Tennessee. As a child, she relocated with her family to Lenoir City where she lived most all of her life. She was a graduate of the LCHS Class of 1956 and a graduate University of Tennessee medical college of Radiological Technologies in 1959. Carol was a member of First Baptist Church Lenoir City for 47 years.
On July 9, 1960, Mrs. Fletcher married the love of her life, William Jerry Fletcher, after meeting on a blind date arranged by friends. After a short stint living in Chicago, the couple moved back home and settled in Lenoir City where they together started their home, raised their family, and spent their entire adult life. Carol was well known in the community as a very supportive wife and mother who was totally invested in the activities and best interest of her family. She was a wonderful cook and took exceptional pride in being the best possible wife, mother, friend, and neighbor. Her family has long marveled at her tireless energy in selflessly supporting their interest, first and foremost, and believe that her love and commitment to her family sets the standard for defining a perfect mother.
As a profession, she spent her entire career in medical radiological technologies in leadership capacities, with her last professional assignment being Director of The Oak Ridge Breast Center, a role and responsibility that she cherished being a breast cancer survivor herself.
And, while she took her profession very seriously, nothing came before her husband, children, and grandchildren. Total commitment and unconditional love. Always quick with an encouraging word, followed by a constant love and support that was endless. And, rest assured, the only person in Heaven happier today than our Mom, is our Dad. Their 62 years of marriage is a foundation of love for our family and their teamwork was remarkable to watch.
Her most notable joys in life were: pridefully watching the development, growth, and accomplishment of her husband, children, and grandchildren, and providing love, food, and support in abundance to her family. She was an incredibly loyal supporter of the University of Tennessee….and seldom did she miss a single second of action of any Tennessee team, in any season. She was all in…win, lose, or tie.
Our mom had many, many other interest and talents…far too many to mention. However, one talent only those close to her would ever know was that she was an expert level commander of crossword puzzles. Her aptitude, speed, accuracy, and vastness of her vocabulary was uncanny and always amazed her family.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, William Jerry Fletcher; her parents, Floyd Echols and Lela Colvin Newman; her older brother, Jack Newman; her Mother and Father-in-Law, Ida Belle Summitt Fletcher and William Clyde (Dutch) Fletcher; her sister in law, Sybil Fletcher Collins, and her husband Floyd; her brother in law, Jean Fletcher, and his wife Sue.
She is survived by her daughter, Paige Fletcher Park (Eddie) of Lenoir City; son, Scott Fletcher (Amy) of Calhoun, Georgia; her grandchildren, Amber Park Kennedy (Chad), Windsor Park Pesterfield (DeWayne), Jansen Park, Beck Fletcher (Ashlyn), and Matthew Fletcher; her great grandchildren, Emme and Berkleigh Pesterfield, and Braxton and Bo Kennedy; and many very special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carol Newman Fletcher…a life very well lived. Her family has long felt that God made her special, and we feel so blessed that He chose us to share her life. The only thing greater than our love for our mom, is the love that she always returned to us. Therefore, we are finding comfort and peace in knowing that she has now reconnected with our Dad, and with those she loved so deeply which passed before her, and that she will, most certainly, make Heaven an even better place.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the caring, cards, flowers, food, thoughts, and prayers. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at The Fountains assisted living in Calhoun, Georgia. And a very special thanks to her personal caregivers Sabrina, Davina, Tia, and Michelle.
We feel so very blessed to be surrounded by love and filled with hope.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of the life of Carol Newman Fletcher to: The First Baptist Church of Lenoir City Building Fund.
