George Addison Johnston

1937 - 2023

George Addison (Buck) Johnston, 86, of Roseland, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at his home. Born in Nelson County, February 28, 1937, he was the son of the late John Baldwin and Nannie Pearl Stevens Johnston.

Buck had been a farmer and timber cutter the majority of his life. He enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting, and enjoyed fishing. Buck was also a member of Jonesboro Baptist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Arlene Viar Johnston; sons, Robert Nelson "Bob" Johnston, George "Addison" Johnston Jr. (Norma), and John Ed Johnston, all of Roseland; daughter, Marilyn Monroe Johnston of Colleen; sisters, Marion Adams of Roseland, and Barbara Ann Quick of Roseland; grandchildren, Erin Baxter Biggar of South Carolina, Mary Elizabeth Johnston of Charlottesville, April Melissa Johnston of Georgia, Dustin Gene Johnston of Lovingston, Derek Johnston of Monroe, and Daniel "Cain" Johnston of Crozet; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joe Lee McClellan; numerous devoted friends, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Johnston McClellan, and brothers-in-law, Charlie Lee Adams and Elmer "Rooster" Quick.

A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Jonesboro Baptist Church by Rev. John Campbell. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Viewing was held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funera home.
