Cassie PARKER Obituary

Cassie Thurman Parker

Cassie Thurman Parker, 97, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Gilbert Clark Parker.

Born July 5, 1911, in Gladys, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Howard and Nellie May Hundley Thurman Taylor. Mrs. Parker was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a devoted member of The Church of God.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Garnett Gilbert Parker; a grandson, Thomas Garnett Parker; three brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Parker is survived by two daughters, Elsie Franklin of Madison Heights and Shirley Apperson and husband, Walter, of Lynchburg; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Anders and the Rev. Paul Horton officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the funeral home.

I am sorry to hear about another relative's death. I did not know Ms. Parker but my aunt Viola Thurman Burnette knew her. My grandfather, John Thomas Thurman, of Gladys, VA, was Ms. Parker's father's (Leslie) brother. You may call me anytime. I am working on our Thurman family tree.

I am sorry for the loss. Cassie was the sister of my late Grandfather Claude Arnold Thurman. I don't know alot about Grandpa's syblings, just what I found on Rootsweb.com, I know she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. May God Bless and keep you in your time of sorrow.
