Kenneth C. JOHNSTON Sr.

JOHNSTON - Kenneth C. Sr., 95, of Port St. Lucie, FL, died October 11, 2013. He was born in Canarsie Brooklyn, NY and was a resident of Port St. Lucie since 2004, coming from Orlando. He served in the Army Air Corps as 1st Lt. pilot instructor/navigator. In 1946 he joined the NYPD and in 1949 joined the NYPD's Aviation Bureau and flew helicopters and was in charge of the Aviation Bureau for 15 years, retiring in 1969. He worked for Pan Am as the manager of their metro port and also managed a Heliport at 34th Street in Manhattan, NY for Island Helicopters. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Anne in 2008. Survivors include two daughters, Jane A. Burzo and husband Al of Port St. Lucie, FL, Eileen Mary Mendell and husband Richard of NJ; his son, Kenneth C. Johnston, Jr., of Port St. Lucie, FL; and grandchildren Jane, Laura, Strummer, Olivia, and twins Eli and Nathan. A Service will be held at the Green-ood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY at a later date.
