Laura Johnson Obituary
Mrs. Laura Montel Johnson, 90, of Lynn Haven, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at a local nursing home.
Mrs. Johnson was born October 29, 1922 in Temple, GA to Homer L. and Ida L. Morris. She was an accountant and office manager by trade. Mrs. Johnson was a long time member of The First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven where she was the church treasurer and served in numerous church offices. She was a member of Parker Chapter of the Eastern Star and Zollie Wade Young Court of Amaranth. Mrs. Johnson served as the Mayor of Lynn Haven for many years. She also served on the City Commission, Board of Director of C.A.R.E (Chemical Addiction Recovery Effort), Business and Professional Women Club, and as President of Florida League of Cities.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, James Lawson Johnson and parents, Homer L. and Ida L. Morris.
She is survived by her son, Bryan Johnson and wife Sher; grandson, Hunter Johnson; niece, Mary Jo Rizzuto and husband Craig all of Panama City.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tom Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, February 8, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to C.A.R.E, 4000 East 3rd Street Panama City, Florida 32404, in Montel's name.

Mrs. Johnson has been a friend to the Matthews and Mantz families for many years. Thank you Mrs. Monti for your friendship, you will be sorely missed. God Bless.

I played at her house many, many times as a child and was best friends with her niece Laura Morris. When she was elected Mayor of Lynn Haven, I met the writer from Times Magazine when he interviewed her. She was a major part of Florida's history.

I've thought the world of Montel for many years -- since way back when I was a newspaper reporter, and she served, with great wisdom, on the Lynn Haven City Commission.
