Samuel Griffin Obituary

Mr. Samuel Griffin, 74, residing at 905 E. 14th St., Lynn Haven, Fla., answered our Lords' Call and went home peacefully to be with Him March 10, 2011.

Samuel accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and remained a devoted member of Allen Chapel AME Church throughout his life, serving on the trustee and steward boards. He attended Wednesday bible study and prayer regularly with New Hope Baptist Church. He was educated in Bay County and at FAMU in Tallahassee, Fla., where he learned the trade of brick masonry. He was employed with the City of Lynn Haven, with The Roundtowner Hotel and subsequently with Bay Point as Maitre d' and Desk Manager for Sheraton Hotel and Barefoot Inn in Panama City Beach, Fla. He also was employed with Bay County's Road Department, as supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Sr. and Nettie Wilson-Griffin; seven brothers, Willie Griffin, Earl Griffin, Allen Griffin, Richmond Griffin, Henry Griffin, Charlie Griffin and Clearthur Stanley; two sisters, Edna Mae Griffin-Johnson, Katura Griffin-Doles; and special brother-in-law and friend, Clifford Tee Barnes.

He was married to devoted wife, Helen Barnes-Griffin, for 42 years and through this union he leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted son, Fernandez V. Griffin (Joy); daughter, Deidre H. Griffin Allen (Johnny), Lynn Haven, Fla.; granddaughters, Attorney Kamyle W. Griffin, Arlington, Va., and Jennifer L. Allen, Gainesville, Fla.; one sister, Annie Lou Baldwin (Chancey), Lynn Haven, Fla.; one brother, James Griffin (Delores), Ocala, Fla.; adopted grandson, Alton Wayne Poo-Brantley Jr.; adopted son, Jeffery A. Telfare (Florezell), Lawrenceville, Ga.; adopted daughter, Valoire Pollard (Stephan), San Antonio, Texas; faithful cousin, the Rev. Steve Marshall; loyal friend, Al Haynes; and exceptional caregivers, Shirley Griffin and Solomon Nelson, all of Lynn Haven, Fla.; and an abundance of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Battle Memorial Funeral Home Chapel and from 10 to 11 a.m.Friday, March 18, 2011, at Allen Chapel AME Church. Funeral services will be at noon March 18, 2011, at Allen Chapel AME Church with the Rev. F.C. Griffin officiating and the Rev. Ann Riley, eulogizing. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. Repast held at Allen Chapel AME Church, 1318 Mississippi Ave., Lynn Haven, FL 32444.
