Cheryl Meyer Obituary

Cheryl Doster Meyer

August 25, 1957 - September 7, 2018

Chapel Hill

It is with great sadness that the family of Cheryl Doster Meyer announces her passing after a lengthy struggle with breast cancer, on Friday, September 7, 2018, at the age of 61 years. Cheryl will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 32 years, Andrew Meyer, her son Jeffrey Meyer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, her stepchildren Jon and his wife Ginny Meyer of Raleigh and Kim Meyer of Chapel Hill, and her grandchildren, David and Nicholas Meyer of Raleigh. Cheryl was the daughter of Paul Doster (deceased) and Sarah Doster of Charlotte. Cheryl will be lovingly remembered by her four siblings, Patricia Murphy of Raleigh, Paul Lester Doster, Jr. of Charlotte, Kay Kirby of Chapel Hill, and Ruth Hills of Rutherfordton.

Cheryl Meyer was a graduate of Queens College of Charlotte and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She worked as a nurse for many years at Duke University. Cheryl was a kind, compassionate, generous person. She contributed her time to many charitable organizations in the community, including the Chapel Hill Service League and Meals on Wheels. She played competitive tennis, was a master gardener, loved to read, and was a gourmet cook. One of the highlights of her athletic career was biking the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. She sadly passed away at too young an age and will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial and celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 4th at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception at the Doris Duke Center in Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham, NC. Please inform the family if you plan to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Duke Cancer Institute Breast Cancers Fund.

Cheryl and I were friends through tennis and I enjoyed playing indoor with her not against her, haha. She was rated higher than me and was so gracious and supportive when I made an error. Her smile is what I will miss the most because she was rarely without it no matter the situation. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Andy and Jeff, So sad for your loss. I will so miss her generous, kind and welcoming spirit. She was my first good friend upon moving to NC - both on and off the tennis court. She's a beautiful woman both inside and out. Praying for you to find peace and strength during this difficult time.

Cheryl was just a super nice person, always with a ready smile and always positive. I will forever remember sitting behind her in the stands at Family Circle Cup and the sun shining on her beautiful red hair.

We feel lucky to have known Cheryl these last three decades. Her beautiful red hair, big smile, and good humor are etched into our minds. It was great when she visited, and we went to the beach, out to dinner, etc. Cheryl made the best Silver Palette Chicken Marbella ever when we visited her! She died too young and will be missed. Cheryl fought cancer with grace and dignity. We hope to keep her memory alive. Laura and Richard B.

I will always remember Cheryl and smile. I was always so glad when Cheryl was my partner on the tennis court and so worried when she was my opponent!

We will miss her.
