James Barbour Obituary

Mr. James Almon Barbour, 82, of 606 N. Baker Street, died Tuesday at his residence. Bornin Johnston County, NC, on September 28, 1922, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Sally Keen Barbour. He graduated fromFour Oaks High School and received a degree from King's Business College in 1942. James was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army as a machine gunman in France and Germany. He was employed with the Johnston County Board of Education, retiring in 1985 after a 30 year career with the school system. Mr. Barbour was a member of First Baptist Church in Four Oaks.
Mr. Barbour was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Barbour and Leon Barbour; sisters, Vessie Johnson, Alice Allen, Louie Stephenson, Mabel Lassiter, and Pansy Johnson; and great-grandson, Luke Aaron Hatch.
Graveside funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Four Oaks Cemetery, Four Oaks. Officiating will be Revs. John Norman and Billy Nowell.
Surviving include: his wife, Geraldine Lowry Barbour; daughters, Kay B. Hatch and husband, John G. Hatch, of Four Oaks and Kathy B. Rogerson and husband, James E. Rogerson of Kenly; grandsons, Jonathan Lee Hatch and wife, Kelly, Justin Rogerson; granddaughters, Tanya H. Carberry and husband, Stephen and Janna Rogerson; great-grandchildren, Gracie Hatch, Charlie Hatch, Colin Carberry,and Lydia Carberry.
Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday.
