 Jim King was born and raised in Rome, Georgia. He attended the Darlington School, and graduatedin 1941 from Auburn University. At Auburn, he also served as President of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
 
 He served hiscountry with distinction during WWII, navigating B29 Bombers flying from India over China and Japan. Jim was honorably discharged after the war as an Army Air Captain. He never lost his love of flying.
 
 After the war, he worked for Allis-Chalmersin Georgia where he met his loving wife, Mary Neely Norris. They married in 1947 in Lakeland, Florida. The couple moved to Raleigh in 1950 and Jim began his career at Garland C. Norris Company. He worked with his father-in-law and later served as the Company's President for over 25 years. During Jim's career in the wholesale industry, the Garland C. Norris Company expandedrapidly to become a multi-state distributor of paper and plastic products. Although officially retired, he continued going tothe "warehouse" and had been there earlier in the day on April 11, 2005.
 
 Jim was a devoted member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church. He especially enjoyed his Sunday School Class and his friends in the Tuesday Morning Men's Breakfast group. He was also very active in the Raleigh community. He was a member of the West Raleigh Rotary Club, and was involved in the Raleigh Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Camp Oak Hill during their formative years. He supported many charitable associations throughout his life, including the North Carolina Dairy Foundation, Peace College, Darlington School, Auburn University, North Carolina Medical Foundation, North Carolina State University Neely Scholarship, Union Theological Seminary and Barium Springs.
 
 Jim was a warm and loving man who was devoted to his family and his faith. Jim participated in every activity that his children and grandchildren undertook. He was a friend to all and a man of his word who was trusted and respected by everyone.
 
 He is survived by his wife, Mary Neely Norris King and children, Jimmy and wife, Joy of Raleigh, Julie and husband, Tommy Lee of Kinston, Garland and wife, Janice of Franklin, NC, and Charles and wife, Becky of Raleigh; grandchildren, Bo, Carol, Christen, Wesley, Coffield, Ruth, Charles, Richard, Gracie, Lillian.
 
 A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005 at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family will receive following the service in the Jane Bell gathering space.
 
 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to White Memorial Building Fund, 1704 Oberlin Rd. Raleigh, NC 27608.
