James Perry Obituary

James N. Perry “Jim” 83, entered into the glorious presence of his Lord and Savior on August 5, 2010.
He was surrounded by his beautiful bride of almost 60 years Shirley Bradshaw Perry; daughter, Carol P. Dysart and Eddie; son, Doug Perry and former wife, Rita; daughter, Becky P. Sink and Bob; daughter, Darlene P. Takacs and Larry; 13 grandchildren and three of their spouses; one great granddaughter; his brother, Frank Perry and wife Juanita; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Washington, D.C. to Harvey and Dorothy Perry. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from the District of Columbia Teacher’s College in 1961, Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1965, Master of Education Degree from Duke University in 1967, and Doctorate of Education Degree from Duke University in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army October, 1946–February 1948.
He was licensed to preach the gospel at Metropolitan Baptist Church in 1954, which is now known as Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. The First Baptist Church of Suitland Maryland ordained Dr. Jim to the gospel ministry in 1955. He pastored two Baptist churches in Maryland, Clinton Baptist Church, in Clinton, Md., Morningside Baptist Church in Morningside, MD and Corinth Baptist Church in Oxford, NC. In addition to his pastoral service, Dr. Jim was principle of two middle schools in Oxford and Durham. He also served for 14 years as the academic dean at Peace College in Raleigh. In 1983, Dr. Jim started his own building business, James. N. Perry Builders, Inc., and built many custom homes in North Raleigh. Dr. Jim was called by Bay Leaf Baptist Church to be Minister to Senior Adults and served in that role with great joy. Jim’s passions in life were his loving wife, his family and serving the Lord.
The family will receive friends on Monday August 9, 2010 from 7:00-8:30 pm at Bay Leaf Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC, 27614. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund or to Missions at Bay Leaf Baptist Church. As Jim would say, “GLORY”!

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Perry. He was a wonderful person and although I have not seen him in years, he holds a very special place in my heart. Shirley, Doug, Carol and Becky, you are all in my prayers and I know that God will see you through this difficult time.

You are our hero! You are missed! What a legacy you have left with all 13 of us grandchildren. We could not have asked for a better "Pops!" You loved everyone of us unconditionally, you loved Jesus and your family! What a legacy of Christ's love, character, humor and faith you have given all of us. You will live on in all of our lives. We are saddened at the news of Jim's passing. Mr. Perry worked tirelessly to better himself and the life his family lived. The character of the children he leaves behind are a testament to the effort he and his wife put forth in their development. He contributions are many; he will be missed.
