James Worsley Obituary

James Doak Worsley, Sr.
Rocky Mount
James Doak Worsley, Sr. passed away after a brief illness on September 28, 2013 at age 89.
He was born in Oak City, Martin County, NC, on March 10, 1924 to Nathan Wilbur Worsley, Sr. and Margaret Barrett Worsley.
He was preceded in death by his son, James D. (Jimmie) Worsley, Jr., his parents, his sisters Janet Worsley and Ann Worsley Hart and Ed Hart, brother-in-law. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Edward Louis and Ila Mustian, and sister-in-law Anne M. Edwards. Served in the USN during WWII. He worked at Rocky Mount Mills as a cost analyst for 41 years. He was a charter member of Englewood United Methodist Church. He, along with Dr. Boone Grant, started the Men's Club's infamous peanut cooking program which is still going strong today. Additionally, he served as a past president of the Men's Club. He also served as a PTA president and belonged to other clubs, including the Lions Club.
He was an exceptional cook and his cheese straws and homemade cakes were his specialties.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 70 years whom he married on November 25, 1943, Nell M. Worsley of Rocky Mount, NC, and daughter, Susan (Rudy) Worsley of Raleigh, NC.
He is also survived by Ruth Worsley, Daughter-in-law, of Concord, NC, grandsons Kevin Worsley and wife, Dawn, of Baltimore, MD, and Dustin Worsley and wife, Chrissy, of Harrisburg, NC. He is further survived by his great grandchildren: Nicolas, Nathan, Amber and Cheyenne Worsley. He is further survived by his sister Rebecca Worsley Green and husband, David Green, of St. Augustine, FL., Brother N.W. Worsley, Jr. (Billy) and wife, Jane, Washington, NC., and S.M. Worsley (Buzzy) and wife Marilyn, Myrtle Beach, SC; Brothers and sisters in-laws: Louis and Nina Mustian, Richmond, VA., Elizabeth Hood, VA, David and Norma Mustian, Wilson, NC.
Mr. Worsley was also loved and adored by many nieces, nephews and cousins, and two very special first cousins, Hilton Barrett (and wife, Mary Leigh) and Pat Barrett O'Neil.
There will be a brief visitation at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, Thursday morning, October 3, 2013 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
A graveyard service will be held in Oak City, NC at approximately 12:00 noon. (You are invited to attend).
A Memorial Service will be held at Englewood United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount, NC beginning at 3:00p.m. The family will receive guests following the Memorial.

Nell and Susan,

I was sorry to learn of Doak's passing. Our families were close during the early years of Englewood Methodist Church. I have many fond memories of those times. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss.

So sorry to hear of his passing..a faithful husband of 70 years through the good and bad times..always known to me as Jimmy Worsley's Dad ..Jimmy and I were in the same RMSH class..grew up in the same .neighborhood..in their later years the Worsley's moved into our neighborhood again..in Englewood..our love and condolences to Susan..and family...Pat (Marks) and Bill McDonald
