Kathy Campbell Obituary
November 30, 1961 - September 18, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - It is with deep sorrow and much sadness that we mourn the passing of Kathy Jo Campbell, who passed unexpectedly in her home on September 18, 2021. Kathy was born on November 30, 1961, in North Carolina to Walter and Nell Campbell and was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt.
She received a degree in social work from North Carolina State University and furthered her education at the University of North Carolina, receiving her master's. After graduation, Kathy had moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where she utilized her degrees to help the less fortunate families in rural areas of the state. Kathy's passion in life was providing mental health resources and services to families that didn't have the means.
Outside of her work, Kathy enjoyed gardening, swimming, and being close to the coast and one with the ocean. She was known to befriend and show kindness to strangers and friends alike, such as chatting up the mailman every afternoon.
Kathy also had a deep love for animals and was frequently a reliable pet sitter for all furry friends. She also was an avid volunteer at several food banks, community events, and church-organized fundraisers.
She leaves behind her parents, Walter and Nell Campbell, sister, Kim Skiba (Dave), brother, Stephen Campbell (Kerri), nephew, Jacob Campbell, and nieces, Kaitlin Walker (Chris), Kristin Skiba, and Emily Campbell, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Trinity Baptist Church off Six Forks Road, in the Narthex, and the funeral service will begin at 1:00.

To all of Kathy Jo's family and friends, I'm with you in spirit and sadness at the news of my good friend's death. Kathy was a highlight in my memories of a close group of friends who embraced me as a newcomer to Charleston in the 1990's. She was so bright, so funny, and so compassionate, and she will be so missed and remembered so fondly.

I'm now looking at a picture of Kathy (from early 70's), with Kim, Stephen, Sharon and Susan. Kathy was so much fun-beautiful inside and out. My heart aches for all of you.

Testimony to a life well lived. Kathy Jo and I restored a beautiful sailing yacht which we named "Paradigm Shift". We then sailed her from Florida to Charleston, SC and Ultimately to Cuba and back. She was a wonderful first mate, an excellent navigator and the love of my life for many years. I will forever love Kathy Jo.

Cathy was a beloved and comforting neighbor. She always was friendly and upbeat and good for conversation with an easy and contagious laugh! I enjoyed learning more about her from the obituary, things I didn´t know because of the humble person she was... Mom would be especially sad to lose her reliable cat sitter.
