Max was born Aug 22, 1923 in Chattanooga, TN, the only child of Herbert Roland Turner and Essie Pearl Murray. Max graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1940 and attended the University of Tennessee until July 1942 when he enlisted in the US Marine Corps.
