Susan Powell Obituary
June 24, 1944 - June 10, 2022
Moncure, North Carolina - Susan Henderson Powell of Moncure, NC passed away peacefully Friday, June 10, 2022 at UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center. She was surrounded by her husband, The Rev. Woodson Lea Powell IV, and several friends and family. She was 77 years old. Susan was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 24, 1944. In addition to her husband, Susan leaves behind her two daughters, Jennifer Rocho (David Rocho) and Melissa Russell (Mark Russell) and 3 step-children, Elaine Cook (Jon Cook), Scott Powell and John Powell. In addition, she had 8 grandchildren: Katherine Rocho, Spencer Rocho (deceased), Charlie Rocho, Henry Rocho, William Russell, Adeline Russell, Jack Cook and McKenzie Cook.
Susan graduated with honors from East Carolina University with a Master's Degree in Social Work in May, 1997. She was a proud member of Saint Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Pittsboro, NC.
She will be remembered for her ability to make people laugh, tell great stories and her way of making everyone feel welcome. Susan fought a strong and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer for 2.5 years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation or Saint Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.
The service for the Celebration of Susan's life and her Burial will take place at Saint Bartholomew's Church in Pittsboro on Sunday morning, July 3, 2022, beginning at 10:00 am.

I did not realize that she had died until recently. We worked together at Beech Mountain Rentals years ago. Lea actually married my husband and I 45 years ago. My husband passed away on May 26th a year ago. My sympathies to her family. She will be missed.

Lea and family,
I just found out that Susan died. I haven't seen any comments from her for a while on Facebook so decided to check her page. David and I are so sorry to hear of her death. She was a special lady and truly a gift to us when she and Lea moved to Williston and came to work for us. We so enjoyed her and all the family and always looked forward to hearing from her. Our love and sympathy to all of you. She was a bright light wherever she was. God's peace to you all.
