Raleigh, North Carolina - Timothy George LaPointe of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the age of 84. Tim was born on November 23, 1937, in Chicago, IL to father Vincent LaPointe and mother Eleanor (Franke) LaPointe. He was one of three brothers, and spent much of his early life in Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana. He served in the US Army and Reserve until 1963 and received his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Applied Physics from Western Michigan University in 1963.
Tim married Carla Rae Behrens in 1960 and they were married for 56 years until Carla's passing in 2017. During his life Tim had a long career with IBM, which brought him and his family to Raleigh in 1979, where they raised three children. Following his retirement from IBM, he was an avid golfer and carpenter and went on to get his contractor's license and build several homes in Youngsville, NC. In his later years Tim enjoyed spending time with his family and collecting coins.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers William and Thomas LaPointe, and his wife Carla LaPointe. He is survived by his children; Shelley Lynn Booth of Indiana, Timothy Mark LaPointe and his wife Nancy Allen LaPointe of Raleigh, and Eric Vincent LaPointe and his wife Lacey LaPointe of Arlington TX; grandchildren Adam Williams, Lance Williams, Sandra Griffin, Andrew LaPointe, Kristen LaPointe, Micah LaPointe, and Madeline LaPointe; and great-grandchildren Raleigh Griffin and Ashton Williams.
The family is planning a private memorial service in the summer of 2023 to celebrate a life well lived. Friends and family wishing to honor Tim's life are encouraged to make donations to WCPE, the Classical Station.
