Gene Harvey Hattan, 87, formerly of Lacon, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Henry Rehab and Nursing, where he had resided for 6 years.
Per Gene's request, no services will be held and cremation has been accorded. The Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is honored to assist Gene's family at this time.
He was born on August 23, 1935 in rural Lacon to George Wesley Hattan and Virginia M. Daum. He first married Sharon Danhof in 1956 (divorced) and she survives in Katy, Texas. He then married Michelle Sharick in 1973 and she preceded him in death.
Gene worked as a heavy equipment operator out of Operating Engineers Local #649, of which he was a member. His interests were hunting, horses and his coon dogs. He played baseball for many years for the Midway Duck Inn team. He was a member of the Quarter Horse Association.
He is survived by 4 daughters, Roann (Louis) Hattan Kostellic of Hennepin; Sue (Jeff) Hattan Rowe of Magnolia, Texas; Bonnie (Greg) Hattan Marusich of Spring Valley; and Vickie (Steve) Hattan Lacy of Katy, Texas; 2 step-daughters, Kim Sharick of Metamora and Denell Sharick Moats of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a brother, Kenny (BonNell) Hattan; and two sisters, Mary (Ron) Roberts and Judy (Bernie) Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Michelle; 2 brothers, Steve and Gerry Hattan; 3 sisters, Lori Dee Little, Verla Hattan, and Patty Kaufman; a brother-in-law, Bud Kaufman.
