Gordon Downer Obituary
Gordon Leroy Downer, 80, of 1 Joyce Street, Guilford, CT and Jupiter, FL, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in Jupiter, Florida. Gordon was born November 30, 1937 in New Haven, CT. He graduated from East Haven High School. He also served in the US Marines from 1953-1955. Gordon was predeceased by parents Clifford and Geraldine (Bombriant) Downer and his wife of 53 years Barbara Jean (Sokol) Downer in 2011. He is also predeceased by siblings Bernice Eiber and Clifford Downer. He leaves siblings Jacqueline Berlinger and Donald (Catherine) Downer, his daughter Denise (Steven) Poulton and his son Gordon A. Downer. Gordon also leaves three grandchildren Sean (Brittany) Poulton, Jeremy (Stefanie) Poulton and Caitlin Poulton. Also, Gordon has four great- grandchildren Emmalyn, Caymen, Autumn, and Julianna. He also leaves his companion of seven years Lorraine Pertle and many thanks to Lorraine for always being by his side until his passing. Gordon owned and operated The Guilford Coin Exchange for 26 years along with his brother Donald.
The family would like to thank Trustbridge hospice for the care that Gordon received at the end of his life.
Friends of Gordons's are welcome to attend a Graveside Memorial service at Alder Brook Cemetery, Boston St, Guilford on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. There are no calling hours. I am so very sorry for your loss! I remember going to the coin shop to play lotto and seeing your dad. Always teasing me! I will remember that beautiful smile. Love and prayers to you all.
