Robert Zapp Obituary
ZAPP
Robert Sylvester Zapp, resident of Florence, KY, passed away peacefully, Saturday September 14th, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood surrounded by his family. He was born 10/24/1928 in Florence, Kentucky of parents Sylvester and Marie Zapp. Married Anna Marie Caldwell of Florence in June of 1950 and she remained by his side through 63 years of marriage. He is survived also by 3 children, Robert Zapp (Nancy), Gale Ann Tesseneer, Bill Zapp (Angie), 5 grandchildren, Brad Zapp, Ben Zapp, Lauren Head (Andrew), Meagan Roberts (Nick), Austin Zapp, and 3 great grandchildren, Jacob, Aubree, Andie, and his sister, Margie Stephenson. He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Rita Zapp, Millie Snell, Alma Cook. Bob was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United Stated Marine Corps. He was stationed in Key West, Florida and served as honor guard to President Truman when he was at the "Little White House" in Key West. After retirement from the military he founded Grant County Concrete in 1956, which is still operated by his son, Bill, today. He was former President of the Kentucky Ready Mix Association, Eagle Creek Country Club, Past Chair Deacon at Florence Baptist Church, Past Trustee Florence Baptist Church. Personally he was affectionately called "Popaw" by everyone in the family. Popaw was an avid golfer and hunter. He also enjoyed spending winters with his wife in Venice Beach, FL and loved watching the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. Popaw has been a cornerstone of the NKY community and the Zapp family for 84 years. We will miss him dearly. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Stith Funeral Homes, 7500 U.S. 42, Florence, KY 41042. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, KY. Online condolences may be made at www.stithfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Florence Baptist Church at Mt.
