Adela Lavidalie

1953 - 2018

Adela Lavidalie, a devoted wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend and long time English as a Second Language paraeducator in Jefferson Parish entered the Gates of Heaven on Friday, July 27, 2018 after a seven year battle with cancer. Born in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala on January 11, 1953, Adela was preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Jean E. Lavidalie, Sr.; her parents, Gonzalo and Inge Galvez; and her brother, Jorge Galvez (Luisa). Adela is survived by a family who adored her, including, her son, Jean E. Lavidalie, Jr. (Dianna); her daughter, Marie Dianne Castaneda (Felipe); her grandchildren, Felipe, Javier, Sebastian, Selina, Daniela and Maria Castaneda and Sofia and Andrew Lavidalie; and her brother, Gonzalo "Chalo" Galvez (Laura). She is also survived by numerous family members, nieces, nephews, and in-laws who treasured her, including those in the Galvez, Lavidalie, Freund/Mallison, Martinez, Preissler/Maggiore, Walton, Munoz, Kobzoff, D'Arensbourg and Bernard families. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the countless people who were not only Adela's friends, but who stepped up to ensure that her needs were met in the seven years after she became ill. Included in that number are the many family, friends and staff members at various schools throughout Jefferson Parish who so generously donated money and/or their vacation days and held fundraisers, which allowed Adela to stay home, totally free from financial worry, during the extremely difficult treatment years. A special sincere and heartfelt acknowledgement is extended to her sweet friends, Maria Molina, Lidia Alvarado and Mayra Cason who so diligently and gently cared for Adela in her final months, which allowed her to remain at home. The outpouring of love Adela received throughout her decades here on Earth, until her final days, is a true testament to the woman she was, and her family is beyond grateful to have witnessed it. Relatives, friends and former students are invited to attend Adela's Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Boulevard, Kenner, Louisiana.
