Gertrude M. Reed Powell, "Ma Gert", entered into eternal rest surrounded by family and loved ones on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the age of 98. Widow of Jesse Powell; mother of Rosalinda Powell (the late Calvin) Brooks, Romona Powell (Tim) Augillard and the late Lovonia Powell (Bernard Sr.) Cola, Ronald (Mary) Powell Sr.; stepmother of the late James Powell Jr.; daughter of the late Arthur "Jack" and Lizzie Williams Reed; sister of Bernice Reed (Lawrence) Wilson, Lucille Reed (late Walter) Magee, the late Wilhelmena Reed Williams, Emelda Reed Gooden, Warnetta Reed (Sampson) Cola, Vivian Reed Mitchell, Lawrence Reed, Royal Reed Sr., Rev. Joseph Reed Sr., James Reed Sr., Arthur Reed and Clifton Reed. Also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Powell retired from Deansgate Sewing Factory after 30 years. Relatives and friends of the family, also priests and parishioners of Blessed Sacrament St. Joan of Arc and Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church, employees of Housing and Urban Development, The Willow (formerly Lusher School) and St. Joan of Arc School, also former employees of Deansgate Sewing Factory, are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 17, 2022 beginning 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament St. Joan of Arc, 8321 Burthe Street, Rev. Charles Andrus, SSJ, Celebrant. Church visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass. Recitation of Rosary 9:30 a.m.; Reflections at 10:00 a.m. Face masks are required.
