Hjalmar "Del" Breit Jr.

BREIT Hjalmar ""Del'' Breit, Jr., a prominent naval architect and marine engineer, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Southerland Place in Mandeville, LA. Mr. Breit was born in Palmerton, Pennsylvania and was a resident of New Orleans, LA for the past 60 years. He was a graduate of The University of Michigan and moved to New Orleans during World War II where he worked in the design field of Higgins Marine. He was owner of Breit Engineering and Del Breit, Inc. and continued consulting in naval architecture until his death. He was a member of Southern Yacht Club. Mr. Breit was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Martin Breit. Survivors include a son, Hjalmar E. Breit III; a daughter, Susan Carroll; 3 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, LA on Friday, November 4, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial to be private.
