Phillip Johnson Obituary

JOHNSON Phillip Joseph Johnson died at the age of 80 on 22 March 2010 in Charlottesville, Virginia surrounded by his family. Survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Freida; their five children, Thierry Drapanas, John William Johnson, Bjorn Johnson, Siobhan Rome, and Kaare Johnson; and eight grandchildren, Christophe, Alexis and Nicolaas Drapanas, Conlan, Stuart and Emery Rome and Olivia and Willem Johnson. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Perret Johnson and his brother, John Johnson. A native of New Orleans, the city he loved, Phil graduated from Jesuit High School and Loyola University and was a 39-year employee of WWL-TV, serving as editorialist, documentary producer, news director, and assistant station manager, winning three Peabody Awards and many other local and national awards. He was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and a retired member of the School of Design and La Societe des Escargots Orleanais. Relatives, friends of the family and employees of WWL-TV are invited to attend the memorial Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 St. Charles Avenue, on Tuesday, 6 April 2010 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 11am until Mass. Memorial donations preferred to: Jesuit High School, 4133 Banks Street, New Orleans, LA 70119 or St. Michael's Special School, 1522 Chippewa Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.

Dear Freida, my deepest sympathy to you and your children. My heart has been heavy since I heard of Phil's passing. Our families were friends since we were very young and I have many happy memories. May God bless you and give you strength through your grief.

SECRETARY, HILDA CROCHET. THEY ARE BOTH
GONE NOW AND CATCHING UP ON EVERYTHING.
HILDA WOULD COME OVER ON SATURDAYS AND
EAT LUNCH AND SAY SHE WAS BUSY WORKING
ON THE CHEF CHARITY COOKBOOK TYPING ALL
THE RECIPES.

Please except my sincere sympathy on the death of Phil.
My dad owned the Home Plate Inn and Phil was a regular there. It was a return to his roots and he and his brother John never forgot their little family at Home Plate.

My you find comfort in knowing that Phil touched a lot of lives, he was a friend to many and loved by everyone.
