Sharon Pugh Obituary

PUGH, Sharon Singer Sharon Singer Pugh, a native of Portland, Me., but a lover of all things Louisiana, died Monday, Jan. 11, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 71. She studied nursing at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (now Brigham and Women's Hospital) in Boston and worked in Baton Rouge where she met her husband John F. Pugh Jr., and moved to his hometown of Thibodaux where they raised their three daughters. She was active in the Thibodaux Service League and volunteered at her children's schools. She was a fixture at their swim meets, cross-country meets and many other activities. When her husband relocated to New Orleans to serve as a lawyer with the Louisiana National Guard, she became involved with the Military Museum at Jackson Barracks working to preserve and catalogue records dating to the Civil War era and beyond. When Hurricane Katrina destroyed many of the buildings at the Barracks, the records were saved largely because of her efforts. Working from temporary quarters at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, she obtained grant funding to reorganize the collection and prepare it for relocation to New Orleans. In retirement, she and her husband of 42 years became residents of Baton Rouge. Sherrie, as she was known to her family and friends, was the daughter of the late Hallam and Lilla Babb Singer of Portland. Her brother Hallam also preceded her in death. In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughters and their husbands Rebecca and Jeff LeBlanc of Thibodaux, Elizabeth and Patrick Odom of Baton Rouge and Katherine and Matthew Headley of Bagley, Minn.; as well as eight grandchildren: Emily, Katie and Andrew LeBlanc; Thomas and Elizabeth Odom; and Nick, Will and Ben Headley.Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street in Baton Rouge from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday followed immediately by a memorial service in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area or to a favorite charity.

John and family,
Working with Sherrie was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It always brightened my day to see her pull up on the golf cart every morning at the archives with Buddy riding shotgun. She will be missed more than my mere words can ever express.
God bless you all!
