Calvin Bones Obituary


Calvin R. Bones, age 82, of Council Bluffs, passed away April 1, 2008, at Risen Son Nursing Home.

Cal was born December 17, 1925, in Waterbury, Neb., to the late Harbison J. and Cretie Mae (Spillers) Bones. He graduated from Allen, Nebraska High School in 1943, Nebraska Wesleyan in 1950, and received his Masters and Doctorate from University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Cal served our country in the United States Army/Air Corps from 1942-1946 during WWII. He married Audrey Schultz on June 3, 1951, in Curtis, Neb., and to this union five children were born. Cal was a longtime educator and school administrator, moving to Council Bluffs in 1968, where he worked for AEA for 15 years. In his semi-retirement, Cal worked in the investment and insurance industry. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he was very active in church work and Sertoma Club of Council Bluffs.

Cal was preceded in death by his son, Gregory in 1971; sister, Catherine Craig; brothers, John, Herbert, Warren and 2 infant brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey Bones of Council Bluffs; daughters, Renae Groves and husband Steve, Cheryl Casey and husband Jim all of Omaha; sons, Gordon Bones and wife Cindy of Fair Oaks, Calif., Steven Bones and wife Toni of Burlingame, Calif; grandchildren, Wesley, Andrew and Liam Groves, Alicia, Sarah, David, Sean and Ian Bones, Hannah and Ethan Casey, Natalie Friscia; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral service, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Hwy 92 and Somerset Ave., with a brunch following at the church. Interment, Sunday, 3:00 p.m. in the Moorefield, Neb. Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or Wings of Hope.
