Charles Stephenson Obituary

Charles E. Stephenson Charles E. Stephenson, 82, a retired federal aviation administration employee, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Norma Stephenson. At his request, no services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. He was raised in Gallipolis, Ohio and attended Beloit College and the University of Virginia. He entered military service in 1941 and was an instrument-rated multiengine pilot. After the service he worked for Federal Aviation Administration as assistant chief of Chicago Air Traffic Control Center. He later transferred to the headquarters office in Washington, D.C., where he was involved in radar components and displays and development of Automated National Air Space System. He served on a number of industry-government and intergovernmental committees and as a delegate to the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal, Canada. He was a former member of the Air Force Association; Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; and the Havana Country Club. He was a member of the Economics Club, Air Traffic Control Association, Southern Region Federal Aviation Retirees Association and Society of Airway Pioneers. He was also a member of Lynn Haven Presbyterian Church. Other survivors include a son, Bruce (and wife Mary) of Auburndale; two grandchildren; and a sister, Argretta Lucas of Marble Falls, Texas.
