George McGinnis, Jr.

George McGinnis, Jr., age 94, of Fair Lawn, on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Born in Paterson, George had resided in Fair Lawn since 1955. A former engineer with Lembo Machine Works which became New Era Converting Machinery in Paterson, George proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. George was a B-17 pilot with the 483rd Bombardment Group and flew 31 combat missions over Italy. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He also received a Distinguished Unit Citation. A man of faith, George was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Paterson and currently a member of the Church of the Atonement in Fair Lawn. George McGinnis, Jr. was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth J. (nee Barr) McGinnis (2013). Beloved father of Kathleen A. McGinnis of Ocean, NJ, and Diane L. Capecelatro and her husband Rick of Orange CT. Dear grandfather of Kevin Capecelatro and his wife Jeanine, and Michael, and Rob Capecelatro. Great grandfather of Anthony, Julia and Nicholas Capecelatro. Brother of Lois Prins, Linda DeBoer, and the late Frances Powers. George is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Cremation will be private. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 14, 2017 meeting at the Church of the Atonement, 1-36 30th St, Fair Lawn. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne.
