John J. "Jack" Sr., 89, of Clifton, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2014.
Born in Paterson, Mr. Hughes lived in Clifton for most of his life. Prior to retiring, he had been employed as the Supervisor 1 at the Division of Motor Vehicles in Lodi. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. Mr. Hughes was a faithful parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church in Clifton where he also served as an Usher for thirty-seven years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the PrimeTimers Club. He was a member of VFW Post 7165, Valley Road Clifton and a Charter Member of the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corp.
Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his dear brother, Thomas Hughes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Jane C. (nee Detrick), of Clifton; three devoted children: John J. Hughes, Jr. of Montague, Johna L. Sabella and her husband, Michael, of Budd Lake and Judy C. Hughes of Hackettstown; eight cherished grandchildren and three adored great-grandchildren.
Jack's family would also like to express special thanks and acknowledge their "angel" home health aide, Bernice Hamoah, for her never ending care and comfort.
Funeral services will be Tuesday 9:15 AM from the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton and 10 AM at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton. Private interment will be at Milford Cemetery, Milford, PA at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Philip the Apostle RC Church would be appreciated.
