Louis Wiedling Obituary

WIEDLING Louis, age 91, of Garfield, died on January 20, 2011. Born in West New York, he lived there for 29 years before settling in Garfield 62 years ago. He was a WWII Army Veteran decorated with the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal, and he was a member of the Garfield VFW. He was an electrical engineer for RCA, Saddle Brook for 25 years retiring in 1990. He belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church serving both on the Board of Elders and as a Sunday School Teacher for 50 years. He was a 58 year active member of Garfield Volunteer Fire Department - Company 2 serving as the Garfield Fire Chief from 1962 - 1966. He was a member of the NJ State Firemen's Association, Bergen County Firemen's Association, NJ State Exempt Firemen's Association, Bergen County Exempt Firemen's Association, Garfield Exempt Firemen's Association, NY/NJ Fire Chief's Association, and he was the co-ordinator and member of the South Bergen Fire Chief's Association. In addition, he was a member of the Garfield Zoning Board, a 50 year member of the Bergen County Republican Committee for Garfield, and a member of the NY Society of Model Engineering, Carlstadt. He is predeceased by his sister Eva Ehlbeck. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Constance "Connie" (nee Miller), three daughters, Francine Sterling, Constance Conlon, and Janice Alaimo, 15 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. The funeral is Monday, January 24, 2011, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 8:30 AM followed by a 10 AM service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Garfield. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visiting Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
