Matthew Kennedy Obituary

KENNEDY - Matthew Howard, Jr., 64, of Belford section of Middletown, died Tuesday, February 28, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, lived in Keansburg before moving to Belford twelve ago. Mr. Kennedy was in the U.S. Army. He graduated the Bergen County Police Academy and became a police officer with Hackensack Watershed Police Department, during his time as an officer he was the training officer for the department, and retired from there in 1996. He was a member of the Middletown Retired P.B.A., and also the Emerald Society of Ocean County. Mr. Kennedy was predeceased by his first wife; Susan in 1991. Surviving are his wife Susan Gibney of Belford, a son and daughter-in-law; Matthew and Marianne of Union Beach, and a stepson Gary Gibney of Belford; two daughters, Deborah Kennedy of Keansburg and Colleen Kennedy of Union Beach and a stepdaughter and son-in-law Robin and Mike Donato of Virginia; two brothers and sisters-in-law Patrick and Kathy Kennedy of Mt. Holly and Michael and Terry Kennedy of Keansburg; two sisters and brothers-in-law Claire and John Coffey of Keansburg and Maureen and James White of Keansburg; five grandchildren Corey and Kyle Nelson, Karen Kennedy, Brian and Michael Donato, and many other dear family members. Family will be accepting friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals, 233 Carr Ave., Keansburg. Saturday there will be a religious service at the funeral home at 10:15 AM and a private cremation will follow.
