Robert FLACKMAN Obituary

FLACKMAN
Robert Charles (Bob) Jr., age 63, of Montville, at rest in Paterson on October 24, 2016. Beloved husband of Cynthia (nee Griffin) Flackman of Montville for 37 years. Loving father of Stephanie and Abigail. Devoted son of Robert Charles and the late Janet (nee Wheeler) Flackman of Ramsey, he will be missed by his beloved sister, Marjorie (nee Flackman)
Saler, and brother Douglas, nephew Mitchell Saler and brother-in-law Phil Saler. He was predeceased by his adoring father-in-law, Roy P. Griffin of Paterson, and he is mourned by his mother-in-law, Ann Griffin of Montville. Bob was born in Teaneck on December 13, 1952 and grew up in Ramsey, where he received his early education and developed many lasting friendships. He graduated from Ramsey High School in 1970 and recently celebrated his 45th reunion. He graduated from Grove City College with a BA in Management in 1974 and earned his MBA in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1987. For the last 14 years, Bob was a dedicated Mortgage Loan Officer for Valley National Bank in Wayne. His colleagues appreciated his excellent work, holiday hats, sense of humor and 12 years of perfect attendance. Bob was licensed in mortgage banking and insurance in previous stages of his career. He also earned a Series 6 and completed Dale Carnegie sales training. Bob played varsity baseball and soccer in high school and varsity soccer in college. He was very proud of the two home runs he hit at a recent Ramsey alumni game. He was a lifelong sports fan and avidly followed the Bucknell Bison with Cindy and Abby and the Muhlenberg Mules with Stephanie.
Bob was also a dance fan and spent countless weekends and most vacations at his daughters' dance competitions, traveling around the country, re-fining his "judging skills" from the audience, and enjoying the company of "Dancedads" almost as much as the "Dance-moms". He had a special place in his heart for people and pets in need. He will be missed by his canine buddy Frankie and many friends at the Montville Dog Park. Bob's high school yearbook aptly stated his "gre-atest ambition … to be the best at everything he … (did)." Those who knew him agree that he achieved that goal enthusiastically, always enjoying the journey and the people he met along the way. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Saturday at 10:30 AM. A viewing will take place on Friday from 4 to 9 PM. For those who wish, a memorial donation may be made to Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson (attn.: Fr. Ed Lambro), 777 Valley Road, Clifton, NJ 07013, an organization helping humanity "based on need not creed".

My deepest condolences to Bob's family. Bob and I went to Sunday school together and played Little League and, of course, were classmates at Ramsey High School. While we weren't close we did have many discussions usually about sports. As I recall he was always cheerful and smiling. Sorry to hear of his passing.

The test for all of us, is not how long you live but how well you live, and judging by the number of people Bob positively effected, his joy in life and his love of family, he achieved that goal in spades, rest well. Brad Higgins
