ALITA SABINSKI DUPONT 1926 - 2018
NORWICH - Alita Sabinski DuPont, 92, formerly of 26 Sholes Ave., Norwichtown, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Mary Jane DuPont Morelli of Clinton, with whom she resided.
Mrs. DuPont was born March 21, 1926 in Norwich, to the late Herman and Barbara(Brehm)Sabinski. She attended Norwich schools and graduated from The Norwich Free Academy, Class of 1943.
She married Richard Robert DuPont September 2, 1946 at sacred Heart Church in Taftville. They were married for 54 years prior to his death on September 29, 2000.
Mrs. DuPont worked for the Norwich Public School system for 26 years. She retired in 1987 as the Norwich Public Schools Lunch Director.
Mrs. DuPont, along with her husband, was instrumental in the development of the Rose City Senior Center, where she volunteered for many years. A plaque in honor of her volunteer work hangs inside the center. Mrs. DuPont was also active in the AARP Chapter 3636 and had served as membership chairman.
Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Herman Frederick of Stamford, CT.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Jane DuPont Morelli and her husband Dominic of Clinton, CT and Joan DuPont and her partner Renea of Mebane, NC. ; two sisters; Elizabeth Jeppesen of Timonium, Maryland and Barbara Heinrich of Manchester, CT, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brian Burgess and his wife Jane of Washington, D.C., Scott Burgess and his wife Emily of North Branford, CT and Megan Shulman and her husband Joshua of Newington, CT., and 4 great grandchildren Carter, Eliza, and Maggie Burgess of North Branford, CT and William Burgess of Washington, D.C.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Woyasz & Son Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
