David Beatty Obituary

DAVID D. BEATTY 1938 - 2017
MONTVILLE – David D. Beatty, 79, a longtime Uncasville resident, died on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at Connecticut Hospice. Born in Jasper, Minnesota on Aug. 15, 1938 he was the son of the late Earl R. and Iona (Shannon) Beatty and the loving husband of Jeanne (Goupille) Beatty. Dave grew up in Jasper and joined the Navy at the age of 17. He served for nine years and was honorably discharged in June of 1966. His connection to the subbase continued for another 20 years having worked as a firefighter with the subbase fire department. He was an active member of the community having been a volunteer firefighter at the East Great Plains Fire Department for 50 years and was a life member of the department. He was a parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Church for many years and served as an usher, mostly at the 7:00 am Mass. He also volunteered his time at the information booth at Norwich Town Hall where he enjoyed talking to everyone that passed by. He was an avid hunter and loved to cut and split wood, enjoyed UConn Women's Basketball, the Minnesota Vikings, NASCAR, and trying his luck at the slot machines. In addition to his wife Jeanne, he is survived by two sons, David M. Beatty, Sr. and wife Patricia and Andrew P. Beatty and wife Beth; four grandchildren, Lynn Withers, Andrew B. Beatty, "DJ" Beatty, Jr., and Jessica Cantara; two great grandchildren, Angelina and Marcus Gracia; twin brother Donald Beatty; two sisters, Joyce Sommers and Carol Redwing; sister in law Ann Jurkiewicz and husband Jay; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Dennis Beatty. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sat., Dec. 2, at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 181 Elizabeth St, Norwich. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Montville. There are no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice.

Jeanne and sons:
My deepest sympathy. Very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Enjoyed many, many years with
him at the East Great Plain VFD. He was always there to pitch in and help no matter what the activity. He was a true gentleman in all aspects of the word. We've lost another of "the good guys...".
Best regards,

Bill Tewksbury

I'm so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. I remember all the things he did for my parents/family over the years. He was there for all occasions, all the time, whether good or bad. We could always count on him coming through for us. He was a phone call away, whenever we needed him, he was there.

Like the saying, "Semper Fi" ....he really was "Always Faithful."

He would climb into the trucks on the coldest nights. Never complained, just got the job done. Never shied away from hard work.
A fine example of how a person should be.

We always knew when Dave was 'in the house.' His strong voice announced his presence. We always got a kick out of it.

I'll never forget him. I'm very sorry that he's gone. He was one of the best people I ever met.
