Mr. Kelly was my science teacher in 8th grade; and that was many moons ago! One day in class, he playfully chided me about how badly I bit my fingernails, and issued a challenge that I decided to be on the winning side of. I stopped biting those nails, to the point where I had to cut them back in order to take a typing class! But Mr. Kelly didn't lose that challenge, we both won. Every time I saw his name come up as a channel 3 weather watcher, I would think of him fondly, and remember what he did for me that day. I am so sorry for your loss. Paul Kelly was one of my favorite teachers, and I will never forget the "positive impact" that he had on my life. His obituary was spot on.

A few humorous remembrances at this sad time:
Kelly walking down the hall bellowing out, "Get your Bumpah guards here! Bosox bumpah guards!"
He used to call me in my classroom every year on Shakespeare's birthday and recite with great feeling the Dagger Soliloquy from Macbeth, which he had memorized: "Is this a dagger that I see before me, the handle toward my hand"?...etc.One time he actually walked into my classroom, took a lap around the room, reciting it as he went. Then just left. Hilarious. The kids could not believe that a science teacher knew Macbeth.
In early April when the daffodils open he would call my classroom and recite "I wandered Lonely As a Cloud":
"I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;"
Hilarious. He did this for about 20 years. And who can forget his imitation of an administrator who went on the PA system on the last day of school years ago when kids used to bring water guns to school: "Teachers! Teachers! Confisticate those water pistols! Confisticate them!" Hilarious. Will miss this guy.

I had Mr. Kelly for science as a freshman at H-K High School. He had a great sense of humor and made learning science really enjoyable. I have fond memories of the class banging our fists on the tables and chanting, "R.R.B.B.M.E.N.D.G" an acronym that describes characteristics of some class of organism. I've forgotten what the acronym stands for, but I'll always remember Mr. Kelly's enthusiasm for teaching.

Your 45's blasted through the halls of H-K on that little player of yours. You made connections with students thru your music, your intelligence and curiosity echoed in your lessons, and your laughter was infectious. A beacon of light for many middle school students trying to find their way. How lucky we all were!

Mr. Kelly was a kind and warm human being, full of life, and a master punster. He was also my favorite teacher. He cared deeply about his students, shared the latest science news with us, and was passionate about our learning. This world is a far better place for his having been here. My thoughts are with you.

Paul Kelly was not only an amazing teacher, he was a role model. Growing up in the Middlesex hockey program, "PK" always gave tips and told great stories of his varsity college days at BU. His home was a stone throw away from ours, so I visited often!
I'll never forget the Super Bowl parties, watching BoSox baseball in his man cave downstairs and catching a Whaler/Bruins game. Spring time, my dad coached Sean in baseball and I remember umpiring and PK would heckle me!!!
Paul's greatest gift was his infectious laugh and good humor. He could brighten a room with his warm, cheerful personality. Anita, Sean and Megan, I celebrate the life of a wonderful and brilliant man who taught me it isn't how many friends you have, but the ones who are close that matter!!!

Truly a sad day to hear of the passing of Mr. Kelly. Mr. Kelly was a fantastic teacher that brought great energy to the classroom and he was someone that loved to teach. To this day my friend and I still talk about him, he gave me a nickname as a kid. El Rojo! It still brings a smile to my face. The other thing that Mr. Kelly had passion for is the Boston Red Sox. As a Yankee fan and as a middle schooler during their great run, it was always great to talk baseball. Glad he got to see his Soxs win a World Series. Rest In Peace Mr. Kelly! Thank you for the passion, the care and for inspiring me to be an educator

My condolences to your family. I taught briefly with Paul at the Junior High. He clearly loved teaching. My favorite memory of him is when the bell would ring for class and a number of us were in the faculty room, he would stand up and shout: " Everybody out of the pool. " We would all leave laughing.

One of the top ten teachers ever in the Haddam School District. He made time for all of his students. Beloved by both his students and colleagues. A dear friend of mine and mentor for over 40 years, Paul Kelly gave us the gift of his humor to defuse tense situations and brought great enthusiasm and passion to all that he did.His family and wide circle of friends meant everything to him. He was as loyal and trusted a friend as anyone could want.Huge loss to his family and friends but lots of great memories associated with this guy!

Anita; There's nothing anyone can say at a time like this to fix it. As I've learned there's no right or wrong way to grieve. So you can't mess it up. Just let nature take it's course and try to accept. I'm here if you want to talk. It's even tougher so close to the 50th anniversary. Carol and I would have been married 50 years June 10th. You have friends who love you and share your pain. I wish you well. Love you.
