Virginia Polk Obituary
Virginia Catherine Helsley Polk, 92, of Edinburg, passed away Friday, February 27, 2009 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Reverends Katie Gosswein and John F. Taylor Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.
Mrs. Polk was born August 30, 1916, in Shenandoah County, daughter of the late Emery Lorenzo and Emma Combs Helsley. She was formerly employed with Strasburg Poultry, Bowman Apple Products, Blue Ridge Poultry and Edinburg Aileen and a member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Hope Polk Sr.; two sons, Robert Lee Polk and Dennis Wayne Polk; one daughter, Barbara Jane Polk; four brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Earl Hope Polk Jr., of Manassas Park; two daughters, Peggy Geraldine Kinson of Front Royal and Nancy Louise Bly of Edinburg; two sisters, Fay Kidd of Edinburg and Patsy Portale of Delaware; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bryan Polk, Brad Polk, Tony Polk, Michael Kinson, Bobby Kinson, Geoff Polk, Darwin Bly and Richard Bly.
The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 175, Edinburg Va 22824 or charity of choice.
Virginia enjoyed birds, flowers, and her garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
