Werner "Vern" Richard Treptau, 86, passed away on December 10, 2015, at his home in Satellite Beach, Florida.

He was born March 20, 1929, in Memel, Germany. He was a survivor of WWII, and POW for 2 years in Russia, where his brother was never found. Werner married Inge in 1954, and they later moved to the United States in 1955. Vern started his own business, Treptau Building Repair in McHenry, IL until his retirement in 1984. They purchased a vacation home in Satellite Beach, Florida in 1992, where they spent several months a year. Following retirement, Vern took a love of landscaping and was awarded Best "Spruced up Yard" of Satellite Beach, FL. He often spent time at his daughter's business, Sunnyside Little Store, in Johnsburg, IL and where he loved to tell stories and joke with the locals. Always welcoming each customer and greeting the ladies with a "Hello schweetie". His grandchildren will miss their goofy "Bucca".

Vern leaves his memories to be cherished by his daughters, Monika (Chuck) Cannell and Vera Treptau, both of McHenry, IL; grandchildren, Christine (Trevor) Bupp and Alex Cannell and a great-granddaughter, Remi Bupp.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ingeburg; daughter, Sonja Treptau and brother, Gerhard Treptau.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
