Alta Virginia Mann

ALTA VIRGINIA MANN SCHERERVILLE, IN Alta Virginia Mann, age 86 of Schererville, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010 in Merrillville, IN. Alta was born in Mabel, MO on January 29, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Vera Belle (nee Rice) Logue. Alta graduated in 1942 from Cameron High School in Cameron, MO. Shortly thereafter, on May 29, 1942, she was married to Myron G. Mann in Kidder, MO. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2005 shortly after they had celebrated 63 years of wedded bliss. She became a self employed beautician in Golden MO and practiced there until her husband retired and they enjoyed 18 years in Plant City, FL. She came to Northwest IN in 2005 shortly after her husband's passing. Alta is survived by her two daughters: Delores Ann Mann and Virginia Lee (Lloyd "Butch") Marshall; five sisters: Laverla Elliott, Elsie Hill, Juanita Greene, E. Jean Ensign and Billie Jo Pemberton; two grandchildren: Matthew and Kimberly; two great grandchildren: Katie and Madelyn; a sister-in-law, Doris Mann; and many nieces and nephews. Alta was preceded in death by two sisters: Charlene Ellis and Leona Hobbs. There will be a memorial service beginning at 12:30 PM on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 18420 Burnham Avenue (enter at the chapel on Ann St), Lansing, IL 60438. Pastor Barbara Page Kell will be officiating. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions in Alta's memory to Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Ave., Munster, IN 46321. As per her wishes, Alta was cremated and her cremated remains were entombed in a niche with her husband at the Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
