ANNIE MICHELS (NEE POTESTA) HAMMOND, IN
Annie Michels (nee Potesta), age 85, of Hammond, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009. She is survived by her loving husband, George; daughter, Dr. Ann Andaloro of Morehead, KY; two sons: George (January) Michels of Schererville and James Michels of Munster; grandchildren: Joseph and Rose Andaloro, Sarah (Eric) Newell, Amy, George Daniel, James Jr., Georgieann and Vaso Michels; great grandchild, Teigan Newell; daughters-in-law: Carla and Maria Michels; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents: James and Rose Potesta; sister, Dolly Brimhall; and brother, Senator Ralph Potesta. A Divine Liturgy will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009 DIRECTLY at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 8103 Columbia Ave., Munster, IN. Mrs. Michels will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. Frank Korba officiating. At rest St. Nicholas Cemetery, Hammond. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave. (corner of Main and Kennedy), Schererville, IN. Panachida 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Michels was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Vice President for 17 years of The Metro Golden Age Club and a member of the Hessville Democratic Club. She was a veteran of World War II and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. She was a graduate of East Chicago Washington High School. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Calumet Area.

Mom, I was honored to spend your last days with you, my only wish is that we would have had more time together. It was a rough year with your passing, as George misses you so very much, I am doing my best to do as you asked of me and I hope you are looking down on us with pride. I pray for you and Dee all the time. I hope you two angels are watching over all of us. You are Loved and Missed .

Mom a whole year has passed, sometimes it feels like just yesterday when you and I were having a morning laugh together doing the soduko. Other times it feels like an eternity since I last saw your smiling face and got to say I love you. I think of you every day and miss you more than you will ever know. You were the best mom ever. I am so glad that January was able to make you as comfortable as possible in your final days. She was a true blessing to all of us.
