Earl Studtmann Obituary

ATTORNEY EARL IRWIN STUDTMANN WESTVILLE, IN Earl Irwin Studtmann, Attorney, born September 3, 1932, passed away peacefully October 18, 2011 at his home. After graduating from Chesterton High School in 1950, Earl briefly attended Valparaiso University then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following an Honorable Discharge in 1954, he earned a Bachelors of Biology from University of Chicago in 1956, a Masters in Liberal Studies and Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University in 1968 and 1974, respectively. He practiced law in Indiana from 1975 until 2010. One of three children, his parents: Irwin and Bertha (Irving) Studtmann; and his brothers: Arnold and Richard Studtmann, preceded him in death. His beloved wife, Janice Studtmann, passed away in 2007. Earl will be forever remembered by his children: Kathryn (Studtmann) Hardeman and husband, Myron of Katy, TX; Dr. Karl Studtmann and wife, Torri of Jackson, TN; David Studtmann and wife, Julie of Mesa, AZ; and Lynn (Studtmann) Schilling and husband, Mark of Portage, IN; as well as grandchildren: Marcus Hardeman, Morgan Hardeman, KaCee Hardeman, Madison Studtmann, Mary Grace Studtmann, Emma Studtmann, Sydney Studtmann, Sophia Studtmann, Isabel Schilling, and Isaac Schilling; and great grandchildren: Destini Hardeman, Cyera Hardeman, Marcus Hardeman Jr., and Tryniti Hardeman. His many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and associates will also mourn his passing. A man of many talents, Earl taught biology at River Forest High School in Hobart, IN, worked in the laboratory at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, IN, and worked nights at the steel mills while furthering his education and raising his family. Passionate about his law practice, Earl claimed he would retire when he died. He loved learning, working on his farm and walking in the Dunes State Park; where he roamed freely during his childhood. He was a devoted father who enjoyed his children and taught them by example. He lived his life to the fullest. A visitation for friends and family will be held for Earl Studtmann at Faith Memorial Lutheran Church at 753 N. Calumet Avenue, Valparaiso IN on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM with a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Refreshments will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Faith Memorial Lutheran Church where Earl was an active member for many years.

My Dearest Friend Earl had been and still is a guiding light in my life. I often ask myself even today, "What would Earl advise?" I miss him dearly.

I met Earl when I was only 12 years old. He provided guidance, support, great friendship and words of encouragement. I met him through my father Asa Bennett, but for me Earl was an inspiration, my mentor, an angel in more ways than one, and great friend! He will be deeply missed.
