J.P. Williams Obituary

JP WILLIAMS JP Williams, 85 passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Fort Myers, FL. He was born July 14, 1929 in Cullman, AL to the late Vernis and Lawrence Williams, the eldest son of a sharecropper, working the cotton fields from a very early age. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Williams Southside Funeral Home-Memorial Park, 1009 Highway 77, Southside, AL 35907 with Bro. Lauril Thompson officiating. Burial in Rainbow Memorial Park. Williams-Southside Funeral Home Memorial Park is in charge. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of services Saturday, February 7, 2015. JP was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (Cherry) Williams; son, Wesley T. Williams; sisters: Louise Ellis and Adean Darden. He is survived by his children; daughters: Elaine (Joseph) Schmidt, Fort Myers, FL, Rhonda (Robert) Grout, Ellijay, GA, and Tammy (Sam) Holzman, Lake Station, IN; sons: Johnnie L. (Sally) Williams, North Port, FL, and Jeffrey (Diane) Williams, Valparaiso, IN; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters: Patricia Williams and Martha Dillard; and brother, JD Williams. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. He served in the military during the Korean War. He worked many years in the Dwight Cotton Mill and began working at US Steel from 1959 until his retirement in 1995 as a crane man and loader in the plate mill in Gary, Indiana. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children. He was always willing to give anyone a helping hand, even strangers he learned about who were in need. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by many.
