Alice Fraenkel Obituary
Alice Helen Fraenkel of Columbus, OH, died after a prolonged illness on June 15, 2016. Born in New York City on January 23, 1932, the daughter of Charles and Lillian Messeloff, she was a loyal alumna of the Bronx High School of Science, graduated from Barnard College in 1953, and obtained a masters degree in History from Radcliffe College in 1954. She also acquired a Ph.D. in Biology and a J.D. in law, both at Ohio State University, leading to positions at Pfizer, Adria, and Ross Laboratories as well as the National Council where she was Study Director of "Opportunities for Research and Prevention and Treatment of Alcohol Problems." She is survived by her husband, Gideon Fraenkel, her children, Emily (Andrew) Faulkner and Peter (Stephanie Friedman) Fraenkel, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by sister Reva Greenberg. An avid reader, she believed that literature and theater truly mattered. She had strong political views and would have urged the support of the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Vera Institute of Justice, donations to which are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Sunday at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla NY.
