CAROL COLLINS Obituary

COLLINS--Carol Ohmer, of Palm Beach, FL died peacefully on December 22, 2023. She was born in 1926 in Utica, NY and spent her childhood in Dayton, OH. Her grandfather owned a firm in Dayton that manufactured taxi meters and other metering devices that he had invented. When Mrs. Collins was ten years old, her father died, and she moved to New York City, where she attended the Chapin School. From Chapin she went on to Vassar College, graduating, because of a wartime policy, in only three years. After Vassar, Mrs. Collins taught third grade at Miss Hewitt's School in Manhattan, a job she loved. In 1952, she married William Bradley Isham Collins, a private investor, and they raised their family in New York before moving to Palm Beach. For decades, Mrs. Collins devoted herself to various charitable organizations, among them the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties and the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth. Mrs. Collins served on the President's Advisory Council of Vassar College. She served as president of the Colony Club. Gracious, fun, and unfailingly kind, Mrs. Collins was beloved by all who knew her, and she treasured her many friends. As a devout Catholic, she had no doubt that God loved everyone. Her husband predeceased her. She is survived by her children Carol Collins Malone, Bradley Collins, Lee Collins and James Collins; five grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Louise Mills and Katherine Sincerbeaux. The date for a funeral has not yet been chosen.
