Dear Carol, Ellie, and Laura,
As I wrote Charlie earlier this year, he belongs to some of my earliest memories: a picture of his parents with my parents "the day before Pearl Harbor" pasted in our family album; I always thought Charlie resembled his very handsome, dashing father; sitting next to Charlie in the lunchroom at Roberts Elementary School opening our lunchboxes and wondering about Charlie's news that his last name was going to change from Jacobsen to Grossman; years of carpooling to Sunday School; the day it snowed enough in Houston to make a snowman and Charlie came over to help; those formal parties we gave at Westwood with Jim Schwartz, just like the parties our parents used to give; and of course St. John's (we changed schools together); meeting Carol at Wellesley and fixing her up with Charlie - enjoying watching a dating ritual blossom into a wonderful marriage. It is entirely unbelievable to me that Charlie's funeral is being held today when my memories of him are so alive. A wonderful friend, a deeply kind and compassionate human being - how lucky I was to have known him!

As a long time member of BIC in Jackson and a life time admirer of you and your accomplishments, I am deeply sorry for the loss of Charles. Glad I saw him at your Mother's Birthday, and wish you and your daughters the best.

Charlie was a gentleman at the age of 12 and never changed. He will be missed by all who knew him and those whose life he touched with his kindness and knowledge. Our thoughts and prayers are with Carol and the family.

Charlie was respected and admired by many for a lifetime of achievements and triumphs, and for his never-ending contributions to real estate education.
But most of all, he was appreciated and loved for his kindness and attention to people's needs. He was gentle and considerate, and always took the time to smile and express his interest when conversing with us in social and business settings.
We will miss Charlie's presence, his reassuring smile and his soft-tone voice murmuring his carefully chosen words of wisdom.
Carol, Ellie and Laura, on the day of the services planned at Temple Emanu-El, we grieve with you, your family and your friends; missing Charlie terribly but relieved that God did not let him suffer from his devastating illness for many months.
Carol, thank you for your friendship, and the warmth Charlie and you have given to us over the years. Our prayers are with you.

It was true indeed that Charlie had 'integrity, decency and kindness'; he had all those traits in the many years we all shared at school. He also had a great laugh, could be a wonderful friend, and listened more deeply and quietly than most people. (Often King of Dry Wit, he could break up a classroom without ever getting caught)..With sincere affection to Carol and his daughters, we are also bereft by his leaving. Know that you always have Texas friends.

It was such a pleasure being with Carol and Charlie in Houston earlier this month. They were in good spirits and were great company, despite Charlie's illness. His friends from St. John's School will miss his intellect, wit, integrity, and courage and hope that Carol will come back for a visit soon. Our love to Carol, Ellie, Laura and family. Muffie Moroney

Charlie, you fought the hard fight and in so doing, you gained the respect of everyone who knew you. Not many people can claim that. You will be missed by all.
