ELIZABETH BRAMWELL Obituary

BRAMWELL--Elizabeth R.

Elizabeth R. Bramwell, 74, Wall Street pioneer, devoted wife and mother, fierce competitor to the end. A native New Yorker and daughter of a church organist, she was graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1962, where she was captain of the field hockey team, and Columbia Business School in 1967. She thereafter embarked on a celebrated career as a Wall Street equity analyst. Her 1974 William D. Witter report on Walt Disney predicted earnings per share down to the cent. In 1987, she started the Gabelli Growth Fund, one of the top-performing mutual funds of its era, and, in 1994, founded Bramwell Capital Management. She was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, The Economic Club of New York, the Cosmopolitan Club, the Women's National Republican Club, Colonial Dames of America, The National Society of Colonial Dames, The Hillsboro Club, The Quogue Field Club, and The Badminton Club of the City of New York. She is survived by her husband, William M. Bramwell, Jr., her two children, Austin W. Bramwell and Hilary F. Bramwell, her grandchildren, William P. Bramwell and Eva v. A. Bramwell, her brother, Robert C. Reed, three half sisters, Analise Reed, Kari Reed, and Kirstin Reed, and her step-mother, Joanne Reed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elizabeth R. Bramwell scholarship fund at Columbia Business School. A memorial service will be held at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church on May 7 at 2 pm.

On the Bryn Mawr field hockey varsity Liz, displayed the same speed, cunning, courage and smarts that she would later bring to Wall Street. My heart goes out to Bill, Austin and Hilary.
