Hawley T. Chester Jr.

CHESTER--Hawley T., Jr., 90, of Greenwich, CT, died Sunday September 28 at Greenwich Woods. Born in Hoboken, NJ on July 24, 1918 he was the son of the late Hawley T. Chester Sr. and Lillian Lowenhertz Chester and the husband of the late Helen Cronkite Chester. Mr. Chester attended St. Bernard's School in NYC, graduated St. Georges School in Newport, RI in 1937. He joined the US Navy in 1941 and was commissioned an officer serving on the USS Miller in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After the war he joined Chubb & Sons Insurance Company. He later joined Marsh and McLennan and later Johnson & Higgins Insurance Group where he was made a partner in 1963 until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Chester is survived by three children, Tracy Chester, Hawley T. Chester III, Peter Chester, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday November 6, 2008 at Round Hill Community Church, 395 Round Hill Road, Greenwich.
